Governance Within the Practice of Data Science
Presented by: Major Paul B. Lester, PhD, PMP, Director, Research Facilitation Laboratory (RFL) Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of the Army (O/DUSA)
Though much can be done with the troves of data emerging from a variety of contexts and platforms, governance over how data can be used and toward what end is lacking. Quite simply, just because we can do something with data, should we do it? And, this question is especially germane to data provided by humans. In this brief discussion, MAJ Lester will describe some policies and best practices related to data governance used within the Research Facilitation Laboratory, a data science laboratory located in Monterey, CA that is dedicated to repurposing data existing about humans within the Department of Defense community and using it towards behavioral science research, program evaluation, and organizational improvement.
